FAQ

This is a constantly evolving list of Frequently Asked Questions. It’s best to check here before asking questions in OpenZA-help.

Why can’t I upload an avatar?

You should now be able to upload an avatar of your choice. Initially we opted to use the Gravatar service to provide user avatars but after a bit of testing we have now included the ability to upload your own unique avatar using the My Account -> Profile -> Change Avatar option in the top menu bar. If you still have problems uploading an avatar let us know in the OpenZA Help group.

Why can’t I create a blog?

You can. When OpenZA was initially launched we disabled the blogging features while we bedded down the main functionality. Now that we’ve gone some way to doing that you can now create a blog of your own which we will host free of charge on OpenZA. To create a blog visit the My Blogs -> Create a Blog link in the menu bar.

What about forums?

Just like the blogs feature we are concentrating on the core service at this point and will offer a forum option in the very near future.

Why OpenZA and not just use Facebook or similar sites?

Because those sites are great for keeping in touch with family and old school friends but they’re not the best place to organise FOSS communities. OpenZA is all about free and open source software, so there is a clear focus. Users on the site are FOSS fans and are here to be part of this community and it is, hopefully, the best place to build and develop this community.
