Hi Colin, I know that Obsidian offers Ubuntu courses, I’m just not sure about whether they cover Durban. Perhaps @craigaa or @morgs could help? Alternatively the Ubuntu-ZA mailing list might be the place to ask: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-za
In reply to - Colin Anderson posted an update: Hi I am Colin Anderson, who is desperately looking for somewhere to do a basic Linux ubuntu course in order that I can continue with contract work in North Africa as from June, but it seems very difficult to find anything or anyone in the Durban area who does this thing, [...] · View -

Am I the only one having problems with Ubuntu One? I really, really like the underlying idea of Ubuntu One, but over the past couple of weeks it has proved so unreliable (failing to synchronise/connect) that I’ve had to go back to Dropbox for now. I’m running an up-to-date version of Karmic and the synchronisation [...]

Alastair Otter wrote a new blog post: Open source software anti-capitalism? 6 months, 2 weeks ago · View
Open source software is anti-capitalism and undermines intellectual property. It’s not a new claim against free and open source software, but now a new report suggests that a pro-proprietary lobby group has not only been pushing this line around the globe but is also looking to get pro-open source countries listed on the US’ Special 301 [...]

Spent the morning working on OpenZA. The upgrade was long overdue but because of time I hadn’t got around to it. The changes from the previous BuddyPress release to this one are quite substantial so it wasn’t plain sailing. Let me know if things break for you.

Kanian, Ubuntu is a good place to start. If you’re worried about performance then maybe Xubuntu would be the best choice because it is less resource intensive. Otherwise Ubuntu or Kubuntu should work reasonably well on your machine.

Alastair Otter wrote a new blog post: Microsoft to release specs for Outlook .pst files
Microsoft said on Monday that it will open up the data format behind its Outlook program, CNet reports.
In a blog posting, Microsoft group manager Paul Lorimer said the company was working to publish the specifications behind Outlook’s .pst files.
The move, he said, would “allow developers to read, create, and interoperate with the data in .pst [...]10 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Thanks Andrew. Cleared the spam post. I’ve disabled automatic blogs for now. The spammers are relentless.I’m thinking maybe legit users can request a blog. This doesn’t get around spammers registering as users but it does prevent them posting. Over the weekend I spent the best part of an hour clearing spammers from the database.
