This is a list of Linux and open source software user groups run from Africa and mostly servicing users on this continent. We verify this list as often as possible to ensure links are working and details are correct.

Egypt
EGLUG exists to serve the Egyptian free and open source community.
Kenya
Linux Professional Association of Kenya
The Linux Professional Association of Kenya exists to promote the commercial and professional use of Linux and to migrate the local market to the Linux operating system and other free and open source software (FOSS) and applications.
Namibia
Mostly based around a forum.
Nigeria
Domain is active but database has been broken for months. Appears to be inactive. Nigerian Linux Users Group
South Africa
One of South Africa’s oldest and most active Linux user groups. The group hosts both an active mailing list as well as regular meetings with speakers.
ELUG is home to Linux users living to the east of Johannesburg. The group hosts an active mailing list as well as regular meetings. Information on upcoming meetings is best found through the mailing list as the group’s website is out of date.
The Free State Linux Users Group was recently relaunched .
Ruby users group in Gauteng
The Gauteng Linux user group (GLUG) is also one of South Africa’s longest-running Linux users groups (12 years old in May 2009) and hosts a number of active mailing lists as well as occasional meetings.
The Gauteng Python User Group is one of the newest groups in the country.
CTPUG is an active Cape Town-based groups for fans of Python programming. The group hosts regular meetings with educational talks.
Lead is a Linux user groups based in Durban with an moderately active mailing list. the group’s website is very out of date, however.
Also based in Cape Town, LEG is a user group specific to the University of Cape Town and focuses on Linux and open source activities on the campus.
Another Western Cape-based Linux users group based at the University of Stellenbosch. The group hosts a mailing list as well as occasional socials.
The TLUG is a user group based at the University of Pretoria in Gauteng. The group has an active mailing list, a popular forum and a Wiki detailing the various open source services available at the university.
South African Ubuntu fans group which runs a wiki and mailing lists and hosts regular Ubtuntu-focused meettings.
The University of Stellenbosch Ubuntu User Group (Maties Ubuntu ZA)
Advocacy organisation working to create open source awareness among decision makers in the South African government.
Uganda
Linux User Group Uganda hosts regular meetings in the region as well as using IRC for membership discussions.
Zimbabwe
One of the few Linux user groups in the country the group appears to mostly inactive. Similarly, the Zimbabwe Open Source Society appears to now be defunct.
